Festive calendar for 2018 in Russia

2018 is not a leap year, so it has 365 days, of which 118 are holidays and weekends. The production calendar is compiled in accordance with Art. 112 of the Labor Code of the Russian Federation and approved by the Order of the Government of the Russian Federation of September 18, 2017.

Official holidays

Many believe that the Russians are resting more than working. In fact, there are only 8 official holidays in Russia.

In January, the 1st and 7th days rest when they celebrate the New Year and Christmas, respectively. In Russia, the tradition of celebrating the New Year was introduced by Peter I in 1700. March 8 - International Women's Day. There are several versions of the appearance of this holiday. Officially recognized as the one that states that in 1857, workers in the textile industry in New York staged a rally, demanding better working conditions and higher wages. It is possible that Clara Zetkin, who at the Copenhagen forum in 1910, approved International Women's Day, in which, according to her, representatives of the beautiful half of humanity will hold various rallies and processions in order to attract public attention to their problems.

May 1 is now the holiday of spring and labor.In the past, it was called the International Day of Workers, a mandatory attribute of which were holiday demonstrations. However, far from happy events preceded all this - in 1886, workers in the United States went on strike, demanding to reduce the work shift to 8 hours, which ended in bloodshed and clashes with the police.

May 9 - Great Victory Day over Nazi Germany. Established in 1945 by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of 8 May. He became inoperative in 1965.

Since June 12, 1991, all Russians living in the territory from Kaliningrad to Vladivostok have a rest in honor of the Day of Russia. It is this date that dates the adoption of the Declaration of State Sovereignty of the RSFSR.

National Unity Day is annually celebrated on November 4th. It was he who closes the calendar of holidays 2018. Established by the Federal Law signed in December 2004 by the President of the Russian Federation in memory of the events of 1612. It is about the liberation of Moscow from the Polish invaders by the people's militia, which was headed by Kuzma Minin and Dmitry Pozharsky.

Short holiday days

According to article 95 of the Labor Code of the Russian Federation, on the eve of holidays, the working shift is reduced by one hour.In 2018, Russians will work less on the eve of Defender of the Fatherland Day (February 22), before International Women's Day (March 7), on the eve of Victory Day (May 8).
