New Peugeot 508 2019 model year
When in 2010, the 508th changed the 407th and 607th models, everyone decided that the 500th series would finally have the opportunity to turn around in all its glory and once again bring the brand to the leading European automotive industry.
Unfortunately, more or less adequately, it was sold only in its own homeland, in the rest of the countries, except, perhaps, China, it was then rated very poorly.
This is not surprising, because classmates in the D-segment of the Toyota Avensis and Hyundai Sonata looked much more modern and expressive, while low cost, endurance and popularity of such truly popular cars as the Volkswagen Passat and Ford Mondeo were in general very few people could oppose.
Moreover, nothing seemed to foreshadow troubles: the widest range of fairly good economical engines, three complete transmissions to choose from, the ability to choose a complete set of both a sedan and a station wagon ... And even the transparent roof of the latter did not save and the indecent gigantic dimensions of the first one.
And even the prestigious five stars for Euro NCAP. Why all? And because the mega-sedan format was already considered hopelessly outdated by that time.Yes, and in general, the design of the first generation of the 508th, albeit only slightly, but always late, trying to keep up with fashion trends.
Well, in 2019, the model is not just waiting for the birth of the second generation - it will be a full-fledged restart of the idea, ready now to loudly introduce itself to the world and, finally, to win its favor.
Restyling exterior and design
First, this generation will have a structurally completely new platform. Now the 508th will not “freeze”, raskoryachivshis between the two classes, and fully determined where she now still move.
Following the laws of logic and actual automades, it will fall, as if before a jump, to the ground and it seems that it has become longer, and this should, together with the use of a new form factor - a liftback, instead of an archaic sedan, increase its audience by an order of magnitude.
Although, it was possible to achieve such a visual effect only by means of applying other proportions and design lines, because in truth, the car did not lengthen at all.
But the decrease in height was expressed in quite physical figures - minus only 5.6 cm, but with all the other changes, the difference seems striking.
The new platform, in addition to what made the car finally competitive in its size, made it possible to lighten the design by as much as 70 kg, so that the aerodynamic coefficient is now 0.26.
As for the appearance itself, it should be noted that it has become much more effective and relevant. Perhaps the fact is that its design was assembled literally piece by piece from the concepts of Exalt and Instinct, which served as prototypes of the stern and forehand, respectively.
And at the same time, the production model lost the outrageousness of both, but “stole” from them all the charisma, sportiness and fashion.
Sloping roof, LED, very beautiful narrow-shaped optics, and for the GT complete sets have developed their own specific aerodynamic body kit and a completely different grille, which is logical.

Looking inward, you understand why the creators were not in a hurry with the release of this generation: it looks like they were waiting for the invention of all possible innovations and the approval of all know-how in order to shove them into their offspring.
The result was a car that Bruce Wayne would not have missed.
Night vision system, pedestrian recognition,a twelve-inch on-board computer sensor and a ten-multimedia installation of the latest generation, adaptive cruise, emergency braking, directional stability, parking assistant, traffic sign recognizer, multi-function steering wheel and cameras with a 360-degree view ...
And this is not a complete list of what this machine is able to carry on board, because only the basic configuration is described ...
As for the interior design of this ultra-modern pepelats, the concept of it received the spectacular name i-Cockpit and the advertisement of the 508th Peugeot presents it as “a completely new word in comfort and style”.
Well, as for style, there can be no complaints at all - the French finally remembered what nation they belong to and showed who always was a trendsetter in this industry.
The result was a very beautiful and European-practical dashboard, an elegant selection of premium materials, LED lights and a very good location for everything.
And they spiced up all this charm with a traditional panoramic roof, as well as with new professional chairs with electric adjustments and massage functions, and a brand new audio system that you can only dream of.
The engines, expectedly received an effective upgrade, and also, which pleases, the petrol version. And now they are designed for 1.5 and 2 liters of 130, 160 and 180 hp, which is very good for a diesel engine /
And those engines that run on gasoline, and even threaten to take prizes at the next pan-European show, because it is - a pair of four turbocharged 1.6 liters and 180, as well as as many as 225 hp (PureTech series).
For the rest, the future owners of the new products are guaranteed to receive:
- trunk - 485 l;
- full / front-wheel drive;
- length - 4.75 m, width - 1.84 m, height - 1.4 m, wheelbase - 2.79 m;
- eight-speed automatic or six-speed mechanics.
By picking liftback promise immediately three available options: GT, GTLine and Standard. In addition to them, the proposals will traditionally present two versions of station wagons - an off-road hybrid and a classic.
It is not excluded that in the near future the fate of the hybrid version for the sedan will also be decided (with the installation of a total power of about 300 hp).
