The city of Yoshkar-Ola, in contrast to the listedcities is located just north of the Volga on the territory of the Mari lowland, in its center. The city originated on the Malaya Kokshaga River, which traditionally divides the city.
Mostly the city took plains,but there are also differences in altitude. Yoshkar-Ola is rich in vegetation. In the southern part of the city you can find taiga and mixed forests. There are also protected natural territories, among which are frequent forest parks and groves.
Nevertheless, the city does not lack environmental problems in the sphere of atmospheric and water pollution.
Administratively, Yoshkar-Ola is the capitalRepublic of Mari El, which belongs to the Volga Federal District and is located in the east of the European part of Russia. Mari El borders with large entities of the Russian Federation, due to which the links between the regions become closer. But each of the regions has its own rich history and strives to uphold its identity. For example, Yoshkar-Ola is a large center in which a large number of Finno-Ugric peoples of Russia have concentrated. Much in the city reminds of this belonging.
